It's a Calls-Phobic Generation

It's a calls-phobic generation and this isn't improving.

In a short span of a few years, i have come to realise that i have people in this current generation have grown calls-phobic, i.e. we don't make phone calls anymore.

Why?

Apparently, we now have a "more convenient" way of communication now; the SMS.

Why call when you can simply send a message?

"I'm sitting at the table across yours, i see you picking your nose."

Imagine calling people up to tell them that.

Why call when you can send your wishes via a message?

"Happy belated birthday for last year, happy birthday for this year and happy birthday in advance for all the years to come now i don't need to waste more cents on you in future"

Why call when you can congratulate or send condolences via a message? The fact is humans are naturally bad at both. There, the saviour comes along to the human race; the SMS.

"Hey, my condolences, i heard you accidentally killed your house lizard. It must be terrible, i'm sorry..."

"Congratulations!!! You finally scored above 15 for yr addmath!:))"

Why call when you can insult and get your point across just via a msg?

"#!%$%@^%$@!#"

Why call when you can inquire via a msg?

"Mum, i'm in the bedroom, lemme know if you've seen my Flinstones pajama. I need it!!!"

Basically, WHY CALL?

There seem to be close to no need for for calls anymore.

Just like once upon a time, when the phone was invented, written letters and cards got pushed away to a corner.

Technology always has its pros and cons. But there is nothing like a card/ letter written from the heart or hearing a friend's voice over the phone. Even if it's something unnecessary just to ask how the day has been. Or to tell that there's still food in the kitchen. Or that class is canceled...etc etc etc. It's a manifestation and expression of love, care and concern. I could say a million things in a text message, but ultimately, you won't be able to feel what i'm saying. Or to note my tone. Or to catch my sarcasm. Or to hear my concern. Or to discern my mood.

So let's shake off this habit of sending messages just for the heck of it and revert back to phone calls! It's not easy of course, and probably it'll be awkward if people started calling one another up just to ask "So...What'd you have for breakfast?" but no harm trying aye?;)

Let's start by helping me fine- tune my skills on the phone because i can suck at them. So i'm expecting phone calls from you people ah!!! So forget typing people, just dial and i'll pick up:)
